A leading Mombasa based aviation maintenance company, BenAir Engineering Limited is being accused by labour unions in Kenya of ruthlessly exploiting its employees. The Company owns the Mombasa Air Services and is owned by the Cleave family, based in Mombasa. Captain John Cleave is the Chairman of the aircraft maintenance company and its airline sister company, MAS. According to reliable information received on this blog, employees including maintenance technicians earn as low as Ksh.5000($60) per month, workers are said to be overworked to meet increasing demand for scheduled flights due to high tourist numbers with little or no extra pay. All workers are also not unionized, according to a reliable source.
